The Bahá’í Writings teach that children and youth are the most precious treasure a community can possess, for in them are the promise and guarantee of the future. They are a trust that no community can neglect.
In recognition of this vital trust, communities across Canada are supporting the efforts of Bahá’ís and their friends to offer activities for the spiritual education of children and youth of all backgrounds.
The primary purpose of these activities is to empower children and youth to develop a sense of moral purpose and to become conscious participants in the process of their individual growth, as well as that of their friends, families and community.
These efforts aim to develop in children a sound moral structure, to build their capacity to reflect on their words and actions, and to assist them to achieve excellence in all material, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of life. A variety of short lessons, discussions, stories, games, art, music, and activities is used to help to lay the foundations of a noble and upright character.
Lesson themes include knowledge of God; respect for parents, elders and the environment; the importance of prayer; as well as the promotion of friendship, peace and unity. Developing virtues and spiritual qualities such as trustworthiness, courtesy, generosity, kindness, perseverance, and cleanliness is also emphasized.
All of the materials and lesson plans in the curriculum are readily available to examine, and parents are warmly invited to do so.
